Love is in the sweater

February 15th, 2010

It’s a known fact…the French are romantic. You know what I’m talking about: the French kiss, the language of love, je t’aime, wine, chocolate…

So, it was to our surprise that a Frenchman (the most romantic of them all) e-mailed us asking if we could send him this sweater so he could give it to his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day. Even though, as he said…”Valentine’s day happens each day at home” (owww!). But, really? An ugly sweater to show how much you care?

We’re all about customer service at the Ugly Sweater Store, so of course we were happy to work with the Frenchman to get it shipped across the ocean, but we couldn’t help but wonder…why an ugly sweater for Valentine’s Day?

If the ugly sweater played off of an inside joke then of course that is romantic and very thoughtful. Maybe it was something she asked for, which would not surprise us one bit. Apparently, ugly sweaters (or jumpers as they’re called), are a rare commodity in Europe. Was it coupled with tickets to a SCUBA diving vacation that they would take this spring? Or, worst case…was this Frenchman trying to dump his girlfriend by giving her an ugly sweater? We hope not!

Frenchman, or French girlfriend please let us know if the ugly sweater was well-received!

How it all began. The blog atleast.

February 12th, 2010

Early one morning we asked a simple question: Should we start an ugly sweater blog? And you answered, or should I say Suzanne and Lynne answered – YES!

They want stories, a behind the scenes sneak peek, contests, recipes, knitting advice, sweater care instructions and insight on what do with ugly sweaters beyond Christmas – Valentine’s, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, etc. Beyond that, Clarissa and I want to share our expert knowledge of party throwing and party going with all our fans.

Then we asked, what do we call our blog? Obviously the creative juices were flowing because Angela, Angie, Kay, Sally, Nina, Connie, Jean, Jodi, Stacey, Tina, Marnie and Lavern all had plenty of awesome ideas.

From the long, long list of amazingly ugly and appropriate names and with the help of our Facebook Fans we’ve chosen “Pilling Me Softly” as the name of our blog. Angie Paulson won ½ off her next Ugly Sweater Store purchase for providing a great name. Thanks Angie!

Keep commenting, e-mailing, reading, and of course…Keep it UGLY!
